Junior Handicapped
Tournament - 2014.
Final - Paul Goldie v Martin
Goldie
The annual Hawick junior
handicapped tournament was played on Tuesday, 1 April, 2014 at Hawick High School main games hall.
Two pools of players played
round robin games against each other with each game played over
one end to 15 points. The results from the pool games were then
used to place the players in the quarter-final knockout stage of
the tournament. The first seed Paul Goldie (0) beat Jessica
Hutchison
(+2) in the first semi-final 15-9. Martin Goldie (+5) beat
Christy Anderson (+3) in the second semi-final
15-14.
The final was
played over a single game to 15 points and was between Paul
Goldie and his younger brother Martin. Martin played out of his
skin in a determined effort to beat his older brother. Martin
began the final strongly and he was first to reach double
figures. Unfortunately, Martin found that he was unable to
maintain the same level of play throughout the final and Paul
starter to claw back the deficit. Martin had played a very
tiring semi-final against Christy and this was the telling
factor towards the end of the final as Paul managed to win the
last few vital points to win the final 15-13. Both
players are to be congratulated for the high standard of play
and for making the final such a memorable, exciting game.
The trophies for the
handicapped tournament were presented by Nancy Morrison. The
trophy that is given to the Young Player of the Year, for
their dedication and commitment towards the sport and who has
continued to improve steadily throughout the season, was
presented this year to Amber Malcolm.
